Blisters and Clamshells
Blister and Clamshell packaging are primarily used for small consumer goods, foods, nutraceuticals, and pharmaceuticals. The primary component of a blister or clamshell is a cavity, or pocket, made from a formable web, usually a thermoformed plastic.
Blisters usually have a backing of paperboard or a lidding seal of aluminum foil or plastic. A blister that folds onto itself without the backing or lidstock is a clamshell pack. Blister packaging is useful for protecting products against external factors such as humidity or light. Clamshells are often used as a pilferage deterrent because of their size and rigid seal.
